GENERAL

TOYS

Please do not allow your child to bring any toys to school.

SNACKS

Each child requires a healthy sandwich or an equivalent health snack and fruit for a mid-morning snack plus a bottle of juice. No sweets or biscuits are permitted except on the occasion of birthdays.

CLOTHES

  • A full change of clothing must be packed in each child's suitcase each day. Remember that inappropriate clothing will be restrictive to the child in his play and educational discovery.
  • Ensure that all clothing is marked.
  • Children are encouraged to play without shoes in summer as the special equipment and outdoor play aids good foot development.
  • Each child requires a suitcase/bag marked with his/her name. The child should be able to open the bag or case without assistance.

HATS

The children are required to wear official school hats during outdoor play and whilst on outings. These are obtainable from the school at R40.00 each.

Official school t-shirts are also required for outings, and are available from the school at R40.00 each.

BIRTHDAYS

  • Parents are invited to share in their child's birthday celebrations at school.
  • The birthday boy/girl usually brings a cake, cupcakes or ice-cream cones to share with the group.
  • Party invitations may be placed in the post pockets of selected classmates. Please inform the class teacher.

THERAPY

It is our belief that early intervention of identified weaker areas of a child's development has positive long term results.

We have a resident speech therapist and occupational therapist.

If an area of concern is identified, these therapists are available, as well as a list of others whom we use.

ILLNESS

A child who is not feeling well, has a bad cold or has been ill during the previous night should not attend school. Children with illnesses such as gastro-enteritis or chicken pox, or skin infections such as ringworm or scabies cannot, unfortunately, be readmitted to the group without a medical certificate.

Quarantine periods and periods of infectivity are set out below:

  • Chicken Pox
From 2 days before rash until last scab has disappeared.
  • Conjunctivitis
Until eyes are no longer red or discharging.
  • Diphtheria
Until 6 daily throat swabs test negative.
  • Hepatitis - infectious
Until complete recovery. Minimum period of exclusion - 7 days.
  • Lice
After complete cleansing and freeing of head, body and clothing from lice and nits.
  • Measles
7 days after first appearance of rash.
  • Measles (German)
For 1 week after rash appears.
  • Mumps
From the time that the symptoms start until swelling has disappeared.
  • Ringworm
Return to school immediately if under appropriate treatment and affected parts are covered.
  • Scarlet Fever and Strep Throat
If no sore throat, no discharge from ears or nose, no recently enlarged glands or discharging sores and on production of a medical certificate.
Minimum period of exclusion - 14 days after commencement of treatment.
  • Whooping Cough
For 6 weeks after onset
